Today, Half of the Kia Manawanui .Students, have been working on an artwork called "Mauri"..

What does Mauri Mean

(Maori Meaning to ) -Life Force. or Essence.

Where does Mauri come from?

Mauri is naturally in you , being born and living with mauri is a good way to show people who you are , if you actively show who you are your basically showing you are to people 

Why is Mauri important?

It doesnt only keep the legends from the great past known, and our culture alive. But, Mauri guides you to find yourself more and more throughout your journey. It helps you to know who you are(?) and find the kind of person you really are(?).Mauri comes with Mana. And mana comes with respect..To respect Mauri, you need to learn lots about who you are and about your culture. 

What does mauri mean in your context?:

In my opinion: Mauri means finding out, who you are and being yourself.

Turangawaewae

Today I Learnt about TurangaWaewae. I feel like Opononi  is my Turangawaewae because of the peacefulness and the happy vibes that comes across people makes me have that specail connection with others and the nature  Its landscapes capture the point of how we were before and how we changed along the past years. Seeing people in Opononi makes me feel like im at home which I am because my family was born over there .

Cure Kids ..

Today Room 10 participated in a Kelly Sports event to support Cure Kids .

Cure Kids is a foundation that helps out sick kids and funraise  money and gives it to scientist that need the money to try out new medicine for the kids . That means they would have enough money to cure kids and get new equipment to make new treatments / medicine for sick kids . An example of ways they support children's health is : Do activities at different schools to raise money , do funrasing for the kids and many more . The effect of their work/ reasearch is that they would have enough money for the scientist and they would be able to make new treatments for sick ones . 

Today I participated by joining in the activities that was givin to us given to us and also bring a gold coin . That means I did my part to help out the sick ones . An example of a game we played was "Capture the flag" Its basically when your in 4 different groups and you have to basically steal a ball or something you got just to take to your team . 

By supporting Cure Kids I hope my impact I put in would help make a difference .

Welcome Back To Term 4 ..

Kei te pehea to hararei? 

One thing I am really looking forward to this term is the Sleepover/movies because we been reading a book called Wonder and seeing a real life version of the book would be very exciting and also the sleepover I get to spend my last 9 weeks here at Tamaki Primary with my friends and peers , get to know them well and see what they are interested in .. 

My personal goal for the last term of 2017 is spending time with my friends a bit more then I usually do , show more self management so when I head of to college I would be able to self manage myself. Show more confidence , I'm a confident girl I just seem to not show it so thats what I really want to work on . 

To fully enjoy these end of the year opportunities , I will need to remember to show my school values , self manage myself with my Technology fees . 

I am really looking forward to my last term here at TPS ..

Whakatauki O Te Wiki

Whakatauki :

"The person taught well at home will stand strong on the marae and in society " 

Key message : 

It starts at home , if you get taught well about leadership and values , you will be able to take that leadership skill and those values through your life journey. Getting taught those values and showing that leadership will take u far in life as in being an adult . 

A time in my life : 

A time in my life where this whakatauki was set is when i'm either going to a tangi or a family meeting .  Theres either one person standing up and telling us ( kids and adults ) how things are going to be , he or she reminds us on how we should respect each other and show our values towards each other .

Today for careers we had to do a task related to qualities . There's 8 qualities that I think I'm best at and I reckon those qualities are : Kind , on time , polite , quite , careful , cheerful , competitive and responsible . For this task we had to write the meaning and all but something different about my one is that I put in my understanding about qualities and I explained why my qualities are what they are .

Whakatauki o te wiki

Maths - Tia and Tom Money ( Spend & Save )

Today we solved an algebra problem to calculate how much money would be spent and earned by 2 twins . Tom started of with 20$ and spent $2per day . Tia started with $0 and earned $2.50 per day . I used a table to help me calculate the day Tia would overlap Tom with money . We made links to statistics and chose a line graph to show our thinking . You can see clearly , that by Friday , Tia had more money than Tom .

Whakatauki O Te Wiki

Today we had to do a presentation on Whakatauki (  Maori proverb ) . The proverb is " Ma Pango , Ma Whero , Ka Oti Ai Te Mahi " meaning : " With black and red the work will be complete " The words that we  thought / know that  relates to this Whakatauki is : Working together , Cooperation , Partcipation , Communication , Interacting and many more words that relates to it ..

To me, the key message in this whakatauki is :
Supporting others . Interact with others just to get to know them or get involve with the conversation .

You might hear someone use this whakatauki when :

You meet up with your family memebers or  friends and disscus how your going to get or going to do to help out getting the mahi ( work / task / job ) done ..

Tivaevae Art

Today Room9 and Room1 did Tivaevae art . Tivaevae art originates from the Cook island and is usually made by Women .. Tivaevae are seen / used during weddings , birthday and many other special occasions . The patterns usually represent their language .

Today we were doing a Cook Island language slide . This week is Cook Island language week so we are doing some research on the Cook island culture .  Did you know that there is over 10,000 people in Cook Islands ? .

3rd July , 

Today we had to do a whakatauki ( a maori proverb ) . Our whakatauki today was "kia rere au ki te rangi tuhaha kia tau atu au ki toku tumata " english meaning : "  Let me soar to the heavens so that I may read my portential " 

Key message to this whakatauki : 

The key message in this whakatauki is : Flying high into the heavens . Reach yours goals that  you set for yourself . making a good start in life , pushing yourself to achieve those goals and working towards the brighter vision in life .. Start pushing yourself to where you wanna be in the future .. 

A time in my life where this whakatauki was set : 

A time in my life where I had to carry this whakatauki around was when I had to make a fresh start in life . set new goals , pushing myself to get to that goal .. I had to try push myself to where I want to be in the future I still am working towards thoses goals that I have set for myself .. Its just a matter of time where your going to look back and say I have done that , I worked towards that . 

In the future : 

I can use this whakatauki when : 

Try encourage others to achieve their goals themselves  because they probably don't have that support in their life and they probably need someone there for them .. Try help them achieve that goal and make sure they get to where you think they should be in life .. keep pushing them to achieve that goal of theres and make sure that they work towards that goal .. Help them throughout their life by helping them out with their goals ..

Kumara chips

Yesterday Rm10 made Kumara chips . We got put into groups and each group (one by one ) had to go help Kelly out with the chips . Firs of all we had to wash the Kumara and then chop the into thick slices  ( EVEN slices ) after that we had to put some oil onto the tray and place the slices into the tray .. Preheat your oven to 180c then place your tray into the oven .. Wait for 1 hour or 30 minutes for them too cook .. After they had finished we had to wait for at least 5 minutes for them too cook down .. Then we had to make our sauce , the sauces were Sour cream and Sweet chilli sauce .. I quite enjoyed making Kumara chips ..

Matariki

Today we did maths based on Matariki . We learn't a lot of things , I learn't that Matariki stars never flip , there is a difference between flipped and rotating ! .. First we had to line up the stars to see what shape we could see and it came up with a hook ...

Today we got given a whakatauki , the whakatauki that we got is " Ka Kitea A Matariki Ka Rere Te Korokoro" The english version to it is Move on start fresh . To me this whakatauki means Strive to succeed to see a brighter future in life , this message relates in my life when I start a new school and making new friends ... "Strive to succeed to see a brighter future in life " .

My Predictions - The Bone Tiki

...The Bone Tiki ...

WALT : Predict on what you think what will happen next in the book that your currently reading .. 

Today im reading the next chapter of The Bone Tiki , the chapter that im up to is chapter 6 and I think its about Matt going with someone somewhere with a girl or boy called Kelly , I think hes with someone because as it says his mouth tastes all sour and has a funny taste in it and it seems like he hasn't brushed his teeth in days , so that gave me a clue that he hasn't been home , In the first paragraph in the book it seems like he misses his dad because the first thing that came in his mind was the dad , after thinking about the dad he started to realise where the tiki is . He starts to get feelings like he lost the bone tiki , but as it said in the first time he stole it from Nanny Wai's funeral that Mat's dad new "important " client needs it badly , if Mat lost it and can't find it then probably something bad will happen to the dad or Mat , The Bone Tiki is tapu ( special ) and if something bad happens to the tiki then as I said something bad might happen to Mat or the dad .. I wonder what will happen next?...

Today I am doing a prediction on what the next chapter would be about the book that im reading which is : The Bone tiki .. I think it is about Mat and his friend going out to go seek for help .. The last chapter is when Mat stole the bone tiki from Nanny Wai's funeral , but his dads new client wants it badly . I reckon if the client or the dad finds out he stole it and ran away with it he would get into trouble .. Because The Bone Tiki is tapu (special ) , something might happen .. I wonder whats going to happen next ...

Today we had to do a presentation about a whakatauki that got given to us , the whakatauki that we had today was: "Toitu te whenua , whatungarongaro te tangata " We had to write this whakatauki in Maori and English then we had to write down what this whakatauki means to us , this whakatauki means to me that : Look after the whenua so it can still remain for the next generations to come , after that we had to do a pinterest poster for the whakatauki ..

Technology Reflection ..

WALT: Reflect on what we did in Technology ..

Today for Food Technology we made chicken kebab with potato salad .. It took a long time to make it .. Our food that we used was Chicken breast , Potatoes , Mayonnaise  , Carrot and lastly eggs , the equipment that we used was the grater , pots , wooden spoon , bowls and many other equipment . We had to put the potatoes and eggs together to cook so it would  be easier , After all of that we had to make the salad , it look alright I guess , One thing that I think I did well was helping my team out with the cooking and one other thing I need to improve on is helping out with the cleaning and participate more in the cooking more ... Next week we ar baking and i'm hopping the baking is going to be very nice ..

WALT :  Reflect on our goals in Samoan / Maori ..

Today we did our goals in Maori / English / Samoan .. We had to write what people can see whats in us in the outside and what people can't see whats in us on the outside .. We had to explain what the values in Samoan mean to us and how they relate to your  life / goals .. Then write how our future is planned .. Me :  I plan to finish school as a success and finish of university as a achiever , then become a lawyer .. Everyone says that a lawyer is too much but what I see in a lawyer is a hard worker and thats what I plan to be when im older : A hard worker ..

On Thursday the year 7's /8's went to Tamaki College for Technology . That Thursday was the day that we had to change groups .. My new group is now Cooking class .. For cooking  we made Oreo Milkshakes , it was nice .. Next week im not to sure on what we are going to make .. My goal for the next time we go there is keep focus on what i'm making ..

Making Sandwiches

WALT: Identify Key food groups in simple meals Today Room 9 made sandwiches .. Making sandwiches was apart of our inquiry .. In my sandwiches was : Ham , cucumber , tomatoes , mayo and lastly butter .. It was very tasty and very enjoyable .. I would like to keep going on with these kind of activities during our inquiry topic .. After doing our sandwiches we had to do a google drawing about what we did today ... Te Whare Tapa Wha

WALT :  Create a Te Whare Tapa Wha using vegetables ... 

Today we made a Te Whare Tapa Wha using vegetables .. In my group was Stacey and Frances , It took us a very long time to create the house because either our vegetables was breaking cause of the sticks or the position we put the house in didn't work .. We had to use toothpicks and kebab sticks to help the vegetables hold .. The finish design didn't come out as to how we wanted it to be but at least we finished with something  ...

Honey Tasting

Honey Tasting: 

Today Room 10 did some Honey Tastings .. We had to taste 4 different types of Honeys and they we called: Manuka honey , Pohutukawa , Clover and  Mixed .. They all had a funny taste to it .. The Pohutukawa honey had a chunky / sweet taste to it .. They Manuka honey had a medicine / lemon  taste to it .. The clover honey had a sweet / Tangy taste to it ...

Attitude Session

This is my Attitude reflection  ... Our speaker today was Nate ... Our topic today was Puberty , we learnt 4 tips .. Those 4 tips were : Puberty is normal , Everyone goes through it but at different times , Keep clean , Stay hydrated and wash everyday .. For now on im gonna do those tips ... Also if your unsure with puberty make sure u talk to a teacher ,parents or any caregivers ...

Poppies ..

Today Rm 10 made poppies . At first we learn't some facts about the history of Poppies .. We made Poppies by using compasses .. It took time to make the Poppies because some of us didn't know how to use it .. Some facts about Poppies :The poppies came identified with the battle zone of the first world war or Flanders field ,which were originally cornfield.. Poppies bloom from mid June all the way to October .. Some tips we learn't : We had to twist the compass to make a perfect circle , we had to line the pencil up with the compass .. The measurement was 5-1cm ,7-2cm ,10-3cm ..

Attitude Program Session Two .

WALA : Friendship factors ....

This is my Attitude reflection  ... Our speaker today was Kelly's son Tony ... Our topic today was friendship factors , we learnt 6 tips about having a good friendship .. The six tips are : Be Friendly , Be positive , Be yourself , Learn to listen , Remember names ,Remember special names ... For now on I am going to changed by doing all those things to keep my friendship with others strong ......

Mandala Art ..

WALT: Create our own Mandala

For this week we have been learning about mandala's .. We found out facts about them and also did a reflection about it .. Room 10 made a mandala while using classroom equipments ..My mandala that I created means something to me .. Let me explain : The love heart and the arrows means give Aroha (love) to others I put it on there cause I do that to others .. The pluses and the minus means that we sometimes be positive and then we get all angry and do stupid things so it's like a life journey for me cause I been through that ...  The curves means that we have our ups and downs sometimes with people and that's also a life journey for me ..  Lastly I picked the stars because we are all stars .. A few facts about mandala : Mandala means circle and it originates from India ...

Today for writing we had to do a research on different types of animals .. Our questions were what is the habitat , what is their diet , what do they look like and what are some interesting facts about your animal .. The River Talks ...

WALT: Reflect on what we did at the river talks ..

During the week we had to do a reflection about the river talks . We had to answer questions and try make goals for what we would do to help out the river ( Tangaroa ) .. My goal for helping out is make sure everytime I see rubbish around the river or anywhere I'll make sure I pick it up so it doesn't pollute the rivers or anywhere else ... At the river talks it had many interesting things about the river .. The river talks also talked about what it was like in the past and also how it is now .. As they said I am the river and the river is me ... What they mean is that the river is just like us so treat the river like its us ..

Today we have been focusing on past and present tense in maori . We had to choose a verb and have to write down in past & present tense all in maori .. The verb I picked was Hikoi which means ... For example : Kei te aha ahau ? - That means someone is asking you what you were or are doing ? Then your response might be - Kei Te hikoi ..

Concept Ideas For Jewellery

Today for Technology we had to do a design brief on what we want to design . I chose these pictures because I think it will be easier to do . One thing that I think that will be a bit hard is the flower necklace .I think that will be hard because there is too much design on it .. I haven't finished this off but next week I will like to finish it off .. Next week I would like to try more harder and put more effort in my work ...

Cyber smart ....

   Cyber smart .... 

When blogging it is important to remember to check your blog post twice before posting your post . It is important to put punctuation in the right places . You should always have a title and labels so people know what topic your talking about . Lastly its sometimes important to insert a picture so people know what your working on .. 

On my own blog, I try really hard to always insert a picture so people know what I'm working on and what I need to improve on next time . On my blog I try really hard to put labels that reflect to what I am working on or what my topic is about .. 

Something I am going to try and remember to do in the future , when I post on my blog I try work more harder and put more effort into my blog post and do at least more sentences instead of 1 or 2 .. I would want to remember to add in more pictures on what I am working on and what my topic is about ... I would want to remember in the future to put in a interesting title but my title is still related to my topic ....

Technology....

Today the year 7s/8s went to Tamaki College for Technology . I was in group 1 , group 1 went to Miss Ferguson's class which is Graphic designs . What we did in Miss Ferguson's class was 3D and 2D art . We learn't about Oblique , Ellipse and Cylinder. We even got to try it out . We were meant to try out a new site but it didn't go so well.. What I learn't today is that the D in 3D and 2D means = Dimension and sizes ( 2D- 2 sizes and 3D - 3 sizes ). Next week I would like to try out many more things in Technology ..
